Broader legal aid to asylum seekers

he objective of the pilot project is to ensure free legal aid to asylum seekers in Estonian border checkpoints and make provisions for their representation in court, if needed. Additionally, the project aims to further the UNHCR litigation strategy with the assistance of the lawyers of the Estonian Human Rights Centre, who are looking for possible precedent-creating cases that may have a positive effect on prevalent case law in Estonia and application of higher legal standards. The lawyers of the Estonian Human Rights Centre will be turning to respective international and regional supervisory authorities such as the UN Human Rights Committee, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice, should it become necessary.
