Digital technology is increasingly transforming democratic participation. Digital voting — encompassing both electronic voting (e-voting) and internet-based voting (i-voting) — represents a forward-looking development in democratic participation, offering opportunities to improve accessibility, transparency, and inclusiveness. At the same time, these innovations bring significant risks, including cybersecurity threats, data manipulation, unequal digital access, and public distrust of digital systems. The DIGIVOTE project addresses these challenges by promoting inclusive, secure, and rights-based digital voting systems across the EU.

Focusing on both e-voting (electronic voting machines at polling stations) and i-voting (remote voting via the internet), the project examines the legal, ethical, and social implications of digital voting.

The project is co-funded by the European Union.
