Diversity Month takes place in Estonia and across Europe every year in May. In 2026, the European Diversity Month focuses on themes related to an inclusive labour market. In Estonia, we celebrate Diversity Day on the second Wednesday of May, 13 May, led by the Estonian Human Rights Centre.
The aim of Diversity Day and Month is to recognise and value every individual. Every person is important and unique, both in the workplace and in society at large. Celebrating diversity within people, organisations, communities, and other groups is led by the Estonian Human Rights Centre in cooperation with the Diversity Charter network. However, all Estonian companies and organisations—as well as communities and individuals—are invited to take part and organise events. This year, special emphasis is placed on institutions working with young people—schools, youth centres, libraries, and cafés—as for the first time, dedicated content and tools have been developed specifically for them.
“Diversity Month has been a wonderful tradition for years, offering an opportunity to celebrate everything that makes us human,” says Kelly Grossthal, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at the Estonian Human Rights Centre. “This year, the European focus is on the most vulnerable groups in the labour market, such as young people, employees aged 55+, and people with disabilities. However, the choice of focus is primarily driven by the idea of recognising the opportunities and potential within these groups and making better use of them.”
