Thanks to our permanent donors and the one-time financial support from many good people, the Estonian Human Rights Centre can independently and competently stand up for human rights everywhere in Estonia: in courtrooms, in the media, in schools, on the streets, in the corridors of power. Our aim is to help as many people as we can. That is also our intention with the strategic litigation cases, that by helping one person in court, we achieve the protection of the rights of many.
With the help of donors, we defend the safety of Mohammed’s family life in court, have fought for the love of Darja and Jana, assisted Sarah and Kristiina in their residence permit and received confirmation from the court that families raising children must be treated equally, as the family of Marina and Jelena. We have found solutions through the court to some of the problems that have arisen due to the lack of implementing provisions of the Registered Partnership Act. Thanks to the support, we have ensured the provision of high-quality legal aid to asylum seekers at the Centre and over the years have made the Estonian asylum procedure of higher quality.
Donations help the Centre fight hatred, injustice and discrimination. The support of kind people helps us to stand up for freedom of expression in court. In addition, we have defended the Rakvere film festival Festheart against injustice, helped a young man with reduced mobility in a litigation with the city of Tallinn and supported Merike in a lawsuit that focused on possible age discrimination in the labor market.
We want everyone in Estonia to know that their and others’ rights deserve protection, because such a society is more caring, friendly and safer for everyone. In December, we will publish, thanks to donations, already the tenth human rights report. It is a reliable tool for professionals, an important educational material in schools and a useful source of human rights information for everyone who’s interested. We pay royalties to experts with the donations, make the report available online and in print, translate it into Russian and English, and send 150 free copies to schools and libraries.
Donations to the Centre always go to the right and important place: the protection of human rights today and in the future. Thank you for supporting human rights in Estonia!
Since you are here...
It is important to protect everyone’s human rights, because it helps to keep stability and peace in the society. There are many challenges for protection of human rights in Estonia: intolerance has really come out of the closet. Bad things happen when good people are too passive, but together we can make a change.
Estonian Human Rights Centre is the competent, accountable and impactful independent human rights organisation in Estonia. Your recurring or one-time donation helps to stand up for human rights everywhere: in courts, in the media, in schools, in the workplace, on the streets and in governmental venues.
Donating is easy, and you can use your credit card if donating from abroad.
