Empowering Ukrainian Youth: Focusing on Human Rights Protection and Civic Engagement

The Estonian Human Rights Centre, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), is conducting a project aimed at equipping Ukrainian youth with the knowledge and tools needed to protect human rights and promote civic engagement within their communities.

The primary goal of this youth-focused project is to enhance the understanding of democracy, human rights protection, and principles of equal treatment among young refugees from Ukraine. Estonian youth will also participate in project activities, supporting Ukrainian youths’ adaptation, mutual learning, and exchange of experiences between the two communities.

Planned activities include an inclusive training course on human rights education, online follow-up meetings, and mentorship. Additionally, youth who complete the training will have the opportunity to implement their own initiatives, bringing topics of human rights and democracy to various communities. Projects initiated and led by these youth are expected to reach around 200 Estonian and Ukrainian youth across Estonia by next spring, with IOM mentors supporting the planning and execution of these initiatives.

The project is funded by the Bilateral Relations Fund of the European Economic Area and Norway Grants.

Since you are here...

It is important to protect everyone’s human rights, because it helps to keep stability and peace in the society. There are many challenges for protection of human rights in Estonia: intolerance has really come out of the closet. Bad things happen when good people are too passive, but together we can make a change.

Estonian Human Rights Centre is the competent, accountable and impactful independent human rights organisation in Estonia. Your recurring or one-time donation helps to stand up for human rights everywhere: in courts, in the media, in schools, in the workplace, on the streets and in governmental venues.

Donating is easy, and you can use your credit card if donating from abroad.
