The Estonian Human Rights Centre invites nominations for the Human Rights Defender Award. Individuals, groups, organizations, and initiatives that have contributed to the protection of human rights in Estonia can be nominated. The deadline for submissions is November 17.
“This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Estonian Human Rights Centre. Over this time, much has changed in society. We invite everyone to celebrate an Estonia that respects each person’s human rights by recognizing those who have contributed to this progress,” says Egert Rünne, head of EHRC.
Nominations are open in three categories. Separate awards will be given for an initiative or action that has promoted respect for human rights over the past few years, for long-term human rights work in Estonia, and for the courage to stand up for human rights in situations where it would have been easy to remain on the sidelines. Submit your nomination on EHRC’s website to ensure that outstanding efforts receive the recognition they deserve!
A jury convened by the Human Rights Centre will select the awardees from among the nominees. The names of the award recipients will be announced at a ceremony on December 11.
